So, If you are afraid of presentation, the first questions is why do I have to do a presentation to anybody? That is a fair question.
Why should you? After all it take a lot of effort, time, and energy just to prepare, practice and delivery a presentation. Are there not better ways?
Why Not Blog It?
Well, you could write an article, like I am doing right now. These words will turn into bits, sit on a server, and be able to be seen by anyone anywhere in the world. It can be seen at anytime. Plus you do not have to get a nervous sweat about writing it. (Some do however)
For the introverted this seems to be the safest and easiest way. If you want to stick with this that is fine. There are plenty of people doing quite well just by blogging. But, these days most do a whole lot more.
For the most blogging takes time to build rapport, it takes time to build a following, and it simply takes time to get into the habit. I know that very well.
Why Not Podcast It?
Instead of writing you could simply talk and having your own podcast. Many people are certainly getting on the podcast bandwagon. It is a great way for your listeners to get to know you. They get a much better chance to know you through your voice. They can also listen to any time and at any place. It can be very convenient. There are people like Cliff Ravenscraft or Pat Flynn who do a very excellent job building business from podcasting.
There is some technical hurdle in doing a good podcast, but for most of us a simple iPhone can do the trick.
Still you need to prepare, come up with a concept, record and edit. It not a easy path, but something worth considering.
Why Not Put it on Video?
You could also do something like lot of other people on YouTube or Facebook are doing and put it on video. It is simply another step up form audio. But you could simply just record yourself with an iPhone and put it on the second worlds largest search engine. Video is almost like being there. So, why not?
But They Are Not the Same Thing
But, here is the question. Between a book by Tony Robbins, an online course with video and audio of Tony Robbins or his Date with Destiny, workshop, which is the more expensive one? The workshop by quite a lot.
What is the difference?
It is not the content. The book and workshop have the same concepts in them. The information is basically the same.
The difference is the experience and the change that can be created by that experience. A good book will give you the tools for you to change.
But a great presentation will give you the emotional energy to drive that change. You do not have build it yourself. The amount of positive energy and connection are completely different from being their live and watching for listening it from a difference.
That is why put more energy into my presentation than anything else, because I feel they are best way to effect change in a person`s live. If you want to have a positive impact, a book will only get you so far. Audio will only drive you so far. Video (despite or in-spite of the TEDx phenomena) unfortunately can only take you so far. But live presentation if done well can really take you home. It simply a great thing!
